Lawrence J. Bennett, 89, of 1301 Nottingham Road, Jamesville, died Wednesday at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bennett was a life resident of the Syracuse area. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1925, and New York Law School in 1929. He was an attorney and practiced in the Central New York area more than 55 years. He was a member of the Onondaga and New York Bar associations. He was a member of Temple Adath Yeshurun, its Mens Club, and served as the Gabbai for many years. Mr. Bennett joined the Masonic Order in 1926. He was past high priest of Central City Bodies of the Scottish Rite, past grand director of ceremonies of Grand Lodge of New York State and past master and secretary of Mt. Sinai Lodge and a Masonic District Deputy for Onondaga County. He was instrumental in dividing districts one and two in the early 1960s. His wife, Janet, died in March. Surviving are two sons, Alan of Jamesville and Leslie of Colonie; and two grandsons. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Birnbaum Funeral Chapel, the Rabbi Charles S. Sherman and Cantor Emanuel C. Perlman officiating. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Calling hours are 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral chapel, 1909 E. Fayette St., Syracuse. Masonic services are at 10:45 a.m. Friday at the funeral chapel. Contributions may be made to the Lawrence J. and Janet Bennett Religious Enrichment Endowment, c/o Temple Adath Yeshurun.
