David Howard Bunis, 91, died Thursday at Tuorney Medical Center in Sumter, SC. David was born in Guthrie, OK, to Nathan and Florence Mayer Bunis. Formerly of Syracuse, he had moved to Sumter in 1996. Dave had worked with his father in their scrap metal business in Auburn. He then worked as a furniture salesman for Dey Bros. in Shoppingtown until retiring. He was a proud veteran of the Army Air Corps of WWII and a member of Onondaga Post 131 Jewish War Veterans. Dave was an avid sportsman, whether it was bowling with the Bnai Brith League, golfing at Drumlins, watching the horses at Vernon Downs or going to Turning Stone; he loved it all. David was predeceased by his first wife of 52 years, Sylvia Marcus Bunis; his brother, Samuel Bunis; and his sister, Daryl Bunis Dworkin. Survived by his second wife, Stella Sutter Bunis of Sumter, SC; his daughter and son-in-law, Marlene Sellinger-Miller and Michael Miller of Alexandria, VA; and his granddaughter, Leigh Ann Sellinger of Jersey City, NJ. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sisskind Funeral Service. Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, at the funeral chapel, 3175 E. Genesee Street. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Donations in Daves memory may be made to Onondaga Post 131, Jewish War Veterans, 5655 Thompson Road, Dewitt, NY 13214.
