Dr. Philip Cohen, 74, of 106 Ridgecrest Road, DeWitt, died Wednesday at St. Josephs Hospital. He was born in Lakeport and lived in the Syracuse area for many years. He was a practicing dentist in Syracuse from 1945 until 1994, when he retired. He graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelors degree and earned his dental degree at Tufts University in 1943. He was a member of Temple Adath Yeshurun, the Temple Mens Club, Philo-Mt. Sinai Masonic Lodge and Bnai Bnth. He was also a member of the Onondaga County and New York State dental societies. Dr. Cohen was a founder of the dental clinic at the Syracuse Boys Club. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Medical Corps as a captain. He was a member of Onondaga Post 131 Jewish War Veterans. Surviving are his wife, Mildred; five sons. Lynn of DeWitt. Jay of
Grafton, Mass., Ralph of West Hartford, Conn., Joel of Lindhurst, Ohio, and Mark of Fairport; a daughter, Sheri Cohen of Unity, Maine; a brother, Dr. Edward of Syracuse; two sisters, Hannah Meltzer and Molly Weiner, both of DeWitt; five grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Birnbaum Funeral Chapel. Burial is in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Calling hours are 10 to 11 a.m. 9 Lafayette at. Contributions may be made to Temple Adath Yeshurun or the dialysis unit at St. Josephs Hospital.
