February 17, 2005 Leo Neuman, 84, of Dewitt, died Thursday at Community General Hospital. Mr. Neuman was a witness to and survivor of the Holocaust. Mr. Neuman came to Syracuse in 1950. He was employed by Dey Brothers as Workroom manager for 34 years in the Tailoring Department, having retired in 1989. Mr. Neuman was the author of With My Last Breath, Memories of Leo Neuman, Holocaust Survivor, published in 1999. Mr. Neuman was the recipient of many honors, including the Eli Weisel Lifetime Achievement Award for his book and he was also honored with the Martyrology Service at Temple Adath Yeshurun in 1994 entitled My Name is Leo Neuman and I was born in Auschwitz. He was a member of Temple Society of Concord and a former member of Adath Yeshurun and of Young Israel Shari Torah. He is survived by his wife, Lisa; his three beloved sons, David, Michael and Hyman; two beloved daughters, Rosa Neuman and Sonja Berson; and a sister, Hinda Gutman; and his five wonderful grandchildren. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Birnbaum Funeral Chapel. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Chapel, 1909 East Fayette Street, Syracuse, New York.
