Beverly Ann Michaels, 86, died peacefully in her sleep at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital on June 16, 2016. Born to Pauline and Samuel Kreisberg in Elizabeth, NJ, and raised in Monticello, NY, she practiced law for more than half a century at the Syracuse firm of Michaels and Michaels. Along with her late husband and partner Martin and her son and partner Edward, Beverly represented generations of families in civil and criminal matters in the state and federal courts.
Mrs. Michaels was salutatorian of her class at Monticello High School, and received undergraduate and law degrees from Syracuse University, completing her studies in 1953. She and Marty were married on September 8, 1951, and in the next 58 years raised three children, built a thriving law practice, and traveled the world together. Family was the center of her life. She was eagerly awaiting the birth her first great-grandchild this summer.
Mrs. Michaels was active in the legal community as a member of the Onondaga County Bar Association, serving on its Board of Directors and numerous committees. She was a member of the American Bar Association, the New York Trial Lawyers Association, and the New York State Academy of Trial lawyers. She was committed to a variety of civic, non-profit and service organizations, including Planned Parenthood, where she served as President. She was a longtime member of Temple Adath Yeshurun. She enjoyed politics and was very active in the Democratic Party. She was a lover of all aspects of the arts, and enjoyed Broadway shows, as well as regularly attending performances and supporting the Syracuse Stage and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.
She will be greatly missed but her spirit will live on in her loving family, children Steven (Anne Cohen) and Edward Michaels, and Dr. Julie (Lee) Gelman, grandchildren, Keston (Ayelet Sivan), Marc (Yuna Lee) and Todd Aquino-Michaels, and Joshua and Sydney Gelman; brother-in-law, Sol (Charlotte) Muchnik; sister-in-law, Muriel Bresloff; nephews, Marc (Lisa) Muchnik, and Carl (Aviva) and Dean (Sandra Lee) Griffler; nieces, Jessica (Norman) Cohen, Shelly and Deborah Field, Cathy Mestman, Leslie (David Smith), and Cindy Bresloff; her grandniece, Aria Muchnik; and the Aquino, Nagle, Gelman, Cohen, and Sivan families.
Funeral services will be at noon, Sunday, June 19, at Sisskind Funeral chapel. Friends may visit with the family immediately prior to the service on Sunday from 11 a.m. to noon at the Funeral Chapel, 3175 E. Genesee Street. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Contributions in Beverly\\'s memory may be made to Planned Parenthood, the Everson Museum, Syracuse Stage, or the Syracuse University School of Law.
