Harry Poushter, 86, died Monday evening at his home in Florida. Harry was a 1944 graduate of Nottingham High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. While stationed in Boston, he met his beloved wife of over 65 years, Dottie. After the war he attended the School of Architecture at Syracuse University. Harry was the founder and president of D and H Poushter Contractors, which he founded in 1948. He was a well-known and respected real estate developer and home builder in CNY. He built hundreds of custom homes in the city and eastern suburbs, apartment buildings, and small commercial buildings. Later in his career he built Kimry Moor, the first homeowners association development in CNY, followed by the Gazebo, Poster Commons and the Hamlet. He was a past president of the Home Builders Association of CNY, an active member of Temple Adath Yeshurun, a past chairman of the house committee of the temple and a member of Wycliffe Country Club. He was predeceased by his brother, David, and his sister, Lillian Buck. He is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Dottie; their sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Ianne, Alan and Marsha, and Ron and Tracy; their grandchildren, Jessica (David) Wilson, Rachel (Justin) Emmer, Jeffrey, Jacob, Andrew, Pamela and Leah; their great-grandchildren Landon Poushter, Harrison Wilson, Benjamin Emmer and Deric Wilson; his sister, Shirley Rosen; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Temple AdathYeshurun. Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the Temple, 450 Kimber Road, Syracuse. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Contributions in Harrys memory may be made to the building fund at Temple Adath Yeshurun. Shiva will be observed Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Ron and Tracys home.
