Eli Cohen, Horseman, Dies at 86
AUBURN — Services for Eli Cohen, 86, of 10 Lewis st, a \'\'dyed in-the-wool" horseman of the old school, who died Sunday night In his home, were held today in BNai Israel Synagog, with Rabbi Hyman Cohen officiating.
Burial was in Adath Yeshiirun Cemetery, Syracuse. Mr. Cohen carries to. his grave scars pf hunaways and accidents in which he • figured. He\' had a permanent limp, a broken\' shoulder and the mark of a horseshoe on back. In his younger days he raced horses at county fairs an( also over ice when such events were a wintertime attraction. When he was 75, he drove a horse and buggy from Auburn to Ithaca and back, to show he could still.handle reins as expertly as of old. The 100-mile ride did not tire him or his horse. Mr. Cohen had some good horses n his day. He boasted having sold or traded nearly 300 horses before retiring. He dealt with Aumrnians and also Cayuga County farmers. A native of Inesladt, East Prussia, he came to Auburn 68 years ago. He was a former president of congregation BNai Israel and one of the founders of the synagogue,
