Ethel (Hoffman) Fine
Ethel H. Fine, 90, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Crouse Hospital. She was born July 26, 1928 in Syracuse, NY to the late Morris and Frances (Hafter) Hoffman. She was a graduate of Nottingham High School and went on to earn her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Anthropology at Syracuse University. Ethel married Dr. Morton E. Fine on December 31, 1950. A devoted teacher and scholar, Ethel worked as a Professor of Anthropology and Sociology at Mohawk Community College in Utica, NY, until her retirement. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Morton E. Fine in 2005. Survived by her daughter, Ava J. (Rakesh) Chopra; and grandson, Alexander Chopra. Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Birnbaum Funeral Chapel, 1909 E. Fayette Street. Friends, family, students, and others whose lives Ethel touched are invited to celebrate her life and legacy by visiting with the family at the chapel on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. immediately prior to the service.
