Alfred Lichtman, chairman of the board of M. Lichtman Co. Inc., wholesale liquors, died Wednesday at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital, Miami, Fla., after a short illness. He was 74 and lived in Fayetteville and Boca Raton, Fla. Mr. Lichtman was born in Utica and lived in Syracuse since 1939. He retired in 1983 from the business located at Morgan Road, Liverpool. Mr. Lichtman was a 1938 graduate of St. Lawrence University. He served in the Marine Corps from 1940 to 1946, attaining the rank of colonel. He was with the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific, participating in the first wave of the invasion of Guadalcanal. Mr. Lichtman received the Silver Star for valor. After Guadalcanal he served with the Office of Strategic Services, the forerunner of the Central Intelligence Agency. Mr. Lichtman was a member of Temple Adath Yeshurun, served on its board of trustees and was a former vice president. He was a member of Lafayette Country Club. Surviving are his wife, Jane; a son, Jonathon of Boca Raton; a daughter, Victoria Lichtman of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a grandson, Jared Lichtman of Boca Raton; and several cousins. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Temple Adath Yeshurun, Rabbi Charles S. Sherman and Cantor Harold Lerner officiating. Burial is in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery, Syracuse. Calling hours are 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the temple, 450 Kimber Road, Syracuse. After the funeral friends may call at the family home, 509 Kimry Moor, Fayetteville.
