Dr. David L. Poushter, 85, who was born in Syracuse, died Monday, January 18, at his home in Rochester. After graduating SU medical school in 1947, he completed his residency at Harper Hospital, Detroit. He then served as a captain in the United States Air Force. During over five decades of practice as an ear, nose and throat doctor in Syracuse, he held the positions of chief of staff at Crouse-Irving Memorial and Community General hospitals, president of Onondaga County Medical Society, president of the Triological Society and clinical professor at Upstate Medical Center. He was also active in the Jewish community, serving as president of Temple Adath Yeshurun and VP of Syracuse Jewish Federation. He received the Esther and Joseph Roth Jewish Community Leadership Award and the Israel Bonds Maimonides Award. He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis, this past June and his sister, Lillian Buck. Survived by three daughters and son-in-laws, Linda and Dr. Larry Lublin of Bloomfield, MI, Susan and David Rothenberg of Rochester, NY, and Karen and Tom Kinneman of North Andover, MA; grandchildren, Stacy and Jonathan Brand, Jeremy and Julie Lublin, John and Michael Rothenberg, and Gregory and Kevin Kinneman; great-grandchildren, Phoebe Brand, Nathan and Eli Lublin; brother, Harry and Dottie Poushter; sister, Shirley and Bob Rosen; extended family, Ethel and Dr. Martin Black, Marilyn and Dr. Erwin Goldstein, and Cyril and Ellie Freeman; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Temple Adath Yeshrun in Syracuse. Friends may visit with the family at the temple on Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at 450 Kimber Road, Syracuse. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Temple Adath Yeshurun, the Summit at Brighton or Lifetime Care Hospice.
