Ephraim "Hal" Mizruchi, 92, author of many books and retired Professor of Sociology at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University, longtime resident of Syracuse, died in Syracuse on Monday May 14th. Born in Chicago, IL he also lived in New Haven, CT and Cortland, NY. He earned a B.A. from Roosevelt University, an M.A. from Yale University, and a Ph.D. from Purdue University. Married in 1952 to Ruth Trachtenberg, they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Ruth died March 23, 2018. Hal and Ruth traveled widely, living in Amsterdam, Netherlands and London, England. In addition to his beloved wife, he was also predeceased by his sisters Esther and Miriam, and his brother Hyman. He was the beloved father of Mark S. Mizruchi and his wife Gail Mizruchi of West Bloomfield, MI, of David M. Mizruchi and his wife Marcia Mizruchi of DeWitt NY, and of Susan L. Mizruchi and her late husband Sacvan Bercovitch of Brookline, MA. He had three grandchildren, Joshua Aaron Mizruchi, Alexander "Sascha" Philip Bercovitch, and Mikayla Mizruchi. He taught generations of undergraduate and graduate students at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University; was an avid SU sports fan who loved attending SU games; was a member of Temple Adath Yeshurun; and a proud veteran of WWII having served in the Army Air Corps.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 16th at 11AM at Sisskind Funeral Chapel, 3175 East Genesee St., Syracuse. Friends may visit with the family immediately prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral chapel from 9:45 to 10:45.
