Harvey C. Birnbaum, 79, of 16 The Orchard Fayetteville, died Saturday. June 14. He co-founded the Birnbaum Funeral Service with his late brother Harold, in 1934. In 1939 he moved to Utica to continue the funeral service. In 1969 he returned to Syracuse as president of the company. He retired in 1982. Mr. Birnbaum was a member of the Temple Society of Concord and was a former member of the LaFayette Country Club. He was a member of the Utica Knights of Pythias, the Utica Odd Fellows and a 50 year member of the Philo-Mt. Sinai Lodge 968 F and AM. Mr. Birnbaum was a former member of the Tri-County Funeral Directors Assn., the Onondaga-Oswego County Funeral Directors Assn., the National Funeral Directors Assn., and the Jewish Funeral Directors of America. Surviving are his wife. Rose Pomeranz Birnbaum, of Fayetteville; a son, Edward Birnbaum of Portland, Ore.; two daughters Marilyn Jacobs of Belmont Mass. and Elaine Dunn of Cambridge, Mass.; two sisters, Mollye Shofer of Baltimore. Md. and Belle Goldstein of Parsippany, N.J.; and five grandchildren. Services were held Monday at the Birnbaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rabbis Invin I. Hyman, Charles S. Sherman, Theodore S. Levy, and Cantor Harold Learner officiating. Burial was in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery.
