SYRACUSE- Harold L. Birnbaum, president of Birnbaum Funeral Service Inc. of Utica and Syracuse, died Saturday in University Hospital after suffering a heart attack. He had been prominent in Syracuse professional, religious and fraternal circles for many years. He had founded the business in 1954 with his brother, Harvey Birnbaum of Utica. An Army veteran of World War 1. Mr Birnbaum served with the Marines in the Dominican Republic after the war. He became a member of the American Legion and was a founder and past president of Onondaga Post of the Jewish War Veterans. Besides his brother, he leaves his wife, Reva; two sons, Martin Birnbaum of DeWitt, and Irwin Birnbaum of Fayetteville, a former Onondaga County Assistant District Attorney; a daughter Miss Linda R. Birnbaum, and a sister Mrs, Sol Schafer. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the JWV Post.
