Lillian Slutzker, 98, died peacefully and with dignity at her home on Thursday evening. Her beauty and charisma belied her years. Born October 7, 1917 in Budapest, Hungary she fled Nazi control in Berlin where she was working in 1939 for England. While in England prior to the Normandy invasion of WWII she met Manny Slutzker. In 1947 she left England to travel to Syracuse, NY to marry him and begin a new life. Lillian was a member and former board member of Temple Adath Yeshurun; The Sisterhood of the Temple; a former member of The Corinthian Club; The Cavalry Club; The Humane Society (both national and Onondaga County), The ASPCA; and a long time supporter of Hillel at SU. The International Student Center at SU was renamed the Lillian and Emanuel Slutzker Center for International Services in 2000. Lillian also believed strongly and supported Bnai Brith International; The National Humane Education Society; The World Wildlife Fund; The US Holocaust Museum; Guiding Eyes for the Blind; The US Disabled Veterans; The National Wildlife Foundation; and Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Lillian was predeceased by her husband Manny in 1985, and their son Eric in 1953. She is survived by her beloved son Craig; and her miniature poodle Bandi. Funeral services will be at 10AM sharp, Wednesday August 24 at Temple Adath Yeshurun. There will not be a visitation prior to the service. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery.
