David Lawrence Schmuckler, 85, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at St. Josephs Hospital. He was born in Mars, PA. David earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Penn State and University of Pittsburgh. He served in the Navy during the Korean conflict as an Executive Officer then moved to Syracuse where he was president of Gardner and North and subsequently Manco Distributors, Inc. As an active member of the Syracuse community, Dave was past president of the board of The Foundation at Menorah Park, a longtime member, board of director and former vice president of Temple Adath Yeshurun, and he was a former member of Lafayette Country Club. Dave also carried on his wife\'s legacy with the Carol North Schmuckler Film Festival. Dave was predeceased by his wife, Carol North Schmuckler; and son, Eric (Michelle). Survived by his sons, Dr. Mark (Katalin), and Adam (Naomi); grandchildren, Benjamin, Matthew, Gavin, Rachel and Madeleine.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Birnbaum Funeral Chapel, 1909 E. Fayette Street. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the chapel on Friday prior to the service. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the family home on Friday, 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, 5 to 9 p.m., and Sunday, 10 to 1 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Foundation at Menorah Park, 4101 E. Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY 13214.
