B. S. Bennett, attorney, dies at 76
Bernard S. Bennett, 76, well-known local attorney, died this morning at St. Josephs Hospital after a short illness. He resided at 115 Gorland Ave. Mr. Bennett was born in Syracuse and was a 1923 graduate of Syracuse University, and its College of Law. His training led him to represent many prominent actors and actresses, while practicing law in New York City in his early career. Mr. Bennett was a member and officer
of Tamborine and Bones, a musical and dramatic society, while a student at Syracuse University. He later served as a writer for a number of theatrical publications, including Variety, Billboard and Zitz Weekly. Mr. Bennett was active in local politics and served as a member of the Onondaga County Democratic Committee for the 17th Ward. He was a candidate for the New York State Assembly on the Democratic ticket in 1956.
Mr. Bennett was a life member of the Onondaga County Bar Association and was a member of Temple Adath Yeshurun. Surviving are his wife, Rose; a son, Dr. H. Bennett of Syracuse; two daughters, Mrs. Joan Barton and Miss Sue Bennett, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren, Matthew and Steven Bennett of Syracuse and Jonathan Barton of Los Angeles, and a brother, Lawrence of Syracuse. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Birnbaum Funeral Chapel, Rabbis Charles S. Sherman and Irwin I. Hyman and Cantor Harold Lerner officiating. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Calling hours are 10 to 11 a.m. Friday.
Contributions may be made to Temple Adath Yeshurun Building Fund. Members of the Onondaga County Bar Association will act as honorary pall bearers.
