Gertrude Katz Swerdlow, 86, of 521 Hillsboro Parkway, Syracuse, died Saturday. Born in Chicago, she was a Syracuse resident since 1957. She also lived in France, Burma, India, Pakistan, Nigeria and Micronesia. She graduated from Syracuse University. She was a senior economist and a professor of economics at Onondaga Community College, retiring in 1976. She was co-founder of Families against Cancer and a consultant to the National Cancer Institute. She attended Temple Adath Yeshurun and was one of the recipients of The Post-Standard\'s Achievement Awards in 1994. Her husband, Irving, died in 1992; a son, Dr. Paul, died in 1985. Survivors: A daughter, Dr. Joby Swerdlow of Manlius; a son, Dr. Joel of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren. Services: Noon Tuesday at Temple Adath Yeshurun. Burial, Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Calling hour, 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Temple Adath Yeshurun, 450 Kimber Road, Syracuse. Birnbaum Funeral Service has arrangements.
