Jeanette (Osofsky) Hegyi
Jeanette Hegyi, 92, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at Menorah Park where she had been a resident for the past three years after living at the Oaks of Dewitt. Jeanette was born in Brooklyn to Jacob and Esther Osofsky. In the fall of 1941, she met a rising young executive, the love of her life, her husband William S. Hegyi of blessed memory. They were married just a year later and began a beautiful life together. In 1950 they joined countless other pioneers in the exodus from Brooklyn to rural Long Island. They built their home in Roslyn Heights where they had a storybook life and raised three wonderful children. Bill died in 1986, and in 1988 Jeanette made the wonderful decision to move to Syracuse. She was embraced by a warm, and caring community and made incredible friendships here ~ it became home. Mom will be remembered for her style and attention to every detail. Every hair was always in place, every nail polished, the jewelry always matched the outfit. Above all was her love of her family whom she cherished. Jeanette was predeceased by her husband; her sister and brother-in-law; and her brothers-in-law and their wives. They have all been waiting, and now she will make her entrance. Her family includes her children, Robin and Steven Sisskind, Lois and Ronald Goldstein, and Donna and Jay Gillman; her grandchildren, Seth Margolin, Evan and Shelley Gillman, Elise Margolin, Jaclyn and Ben Gnacik, Jared Gillman, Josh and Kimi Sisskind, and Will Sisskind; and her great-grandsons, Ari, and Eli Gnacik. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 4 at Sisskind Funeral Chapel. Friends of the family may visit from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel, 3175 E. Genesee Street. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery next to her husband. Shiva will be observed Saturday night at Robin and Stevens home with a service beginning at 8 p.m., and Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. Contributions in her memory may be made to the employee fund at Menorah Park in appreciation of the loving care given by everyone on the campus.
