Stuart H. Grossman, 80, of Syracuse, died Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Crouse Hospital. He was born April 19, 1932 to the late Bill (Valfkie) and Celia Grossman, and predeceased by his stepmother, Ida Grossman.
Stuart retired from the postal service 20 years ago where many people still remember his kindness and smile behind the counter at the DeWitt Post Office. His true passion shined in the kitchen where he created and decorated cakes, baked fresh challah and of course whipped up his delicious cookies for all his friends and family. He was a member of Temple Adath Yeshurun, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and a member of Onondaga Post 131 Jewish War Veterans.
Stuart was predeceased by his first wife, Lydia Deutsch Grossman.
Survived by his wife of 34 years, Joan Grossman; his children, Ellen (Harry) Moran of Galway, NY, Caron Grossman of East Syracuse, and Simon (Marcie Metzger) Nadler of Potomac, MD; his grandchildren, Lindsey, Travis, Jacob, Allison, Emily, Margo, Gabrielle and Eliza; brother, Fred Grossman of Miami, Florida; and nephews, David Grossman of Maryland, and Michael Grossman of Virginia.
Services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at the Birnbaum Funeral Chapel, 1909 E. Fayette Street. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Minyan Fund at Temple Adath Yeshurun, 450 Kimber Rd., Syracuse, NY 13224 or Francis House, 114 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208.
