Leonard Meltzer, 93, died unexpectedly in Jupiter, FL, after residing there for the past 20 years. He was born August 21, 1922 in Syracuse to Samuel and Sadie (Lapidus) Meltzer. Leonard grew up in the Jewish District and attended Syracuse University until enlisting in the Army. He served his country proudly during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart, and a Bronze Star in recognition of his service after spending 10 months as a Prisoner of War in Germany. He was also named a Chevalier, and member of the Legion of Honor by the French government. After the war, Leonard went into business with his father as a self-employed cattle dealer until retirement. He loved his country, family, friends, horse racing and sports! He is survived by his wife Betty Jean, his daughter Sherry, his nephews Dennis and Gregory Poster and a loving extended (Vicerow, Wood and Williams) family. Funeral Services, including military honors will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27 at Sisskind Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit with the family from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service, at the funeral chapel, 3175 E. Genesee Street. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun cemetery.
