DONALD JAY BALL
September 17, 2005 Donald Ball, 94, died Saturday September 17, 2005, at The Nottingham. He was the son of the late Jacob and Rachel Ball, born and raised in Utica, New York. After attending Utica Free Academy, he graduated from the Wharton School of Finance and Harvard School of Law. Mr. Ball moved to Syracuse in 1939, after practicing law with his brother Ira, who predeceased him in 1985, and became comptroller of Rudolph Brothers Jewelers until 1963. He then continued in private practice until his retirement in 2001. A 60-year member of the New York State Bar, he was also an active member of Temple Society of Concord and Interfaith Alliance as well as many civic and philanthropic organizations. He was predeceased by his beloved grandson, Daniel Gaubatz, in 1994. Survived by his wife of 66 years, Charlotte; daughters: Judith Ball (Barry Sirota) of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey; Kathy (John) Gaubatz of Coral Gables, Florida; and Jancy Ball of New York and Syracuse. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, J. B. Rudolph (Edith); sister-in-law, Jeanne Ball; and brother-in-law, Richard Blacher. He leaves many nieces and nephews: Ronald (Anne) and Richard (Franci) Rudolph, David (Cherry) Ball and Nicole Ball (Milton Leitenberg), Amy (Ellen Parker), Richard and David (Betsy) Present; cousins; and god-grandchildren: Tamara Garrison, and Arthur and Erica Erignac and their children, William and Clio. Donald Ball was a modest, kind, intelligent, witty person, who set a wonderful and loving example for those around him. He loved the practice of law and was a caring husband and devoted father. Despite his long years with his family and friends, he will be sorely missed. Don will continue to live on in their hearts forever. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Temple Society of Concord (Madison and University). Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the temple. Burial will be at Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Temple Society of Concord or Hospice of CNY. Birnbaum funeral service, inc.
