January 23, 2006 Seymour "Mr. Pens" Simon, 78, a life resident of Syracuse, died Monday, January 23, 2006 in University Hospital. In the 1950s Seymour founded "Seymour Mr. Pens Simon", Inc. a distributorship of writing instruments and remained as President until 1995, then forming Flo Ball where he continued in an active capacity. Mr. Simon was a member and past President of NAWID. He started the pen business after 1 1/2 years in the Utica Polio Center. Despite the affects of polio he went on to live a full life and became a successful business man. His business took him to all 48 states. As a Naval veteran Mr. Simon was deployed during WW II and Korea. He was a member of Temple Adath Yeshurun, and Onondaga Post 131 Jewish War Veterans. Mr. Simon was predeceased in 2002 by his wife, Shirley Dresher Simon. Survived by his son, Dr. Howard (Barbara Feuerstein) Simon; daughter, Phyllis (David Abernethy) Simon; and grandchildren, Rachel, Hannah, Carly, Max and Drew. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2006 at Temple Adath Yeshurun, 450 Kimber Rd., Syracuse. Friends may call from 12 to 1 p.m. on Friday at the Temple. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Shivah will be observed at the residence of his son Saturday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Contributions may be made to the General Fund at Upstate Medical University. birnbaum funeral service inc
