Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery in Syracuse. His wife, the former Fannie Elman of Syracuse, died in 1968. Mr. Cooper was born May 22, 1887. His father died when he was only twelve years old leaving him with the responsibility of supporting the family. He left school at that time and received no further education. Not yet in his teens, he started driving a junk cart horse-drawn wagon with which he traveled out of Auburn, at regular intervals, and stopped at all the farms along the six or eight routes he covered. There were no automobiles in those days and telephones were rare. His first association with the old Bagley and Sewall company started years ago when he began supplying the company with scrap Iron. The firm became one of his best customers. Acquiring the Bagley and Sewall company from the heirs of George A. Bagley and Edmund Q. Sewall, who had established It in 1863, Mr. Cooper closed an option on the plant and business May 18, 1939, and eleven days later took ever full control. During his active business career, Mr. Cooper acquired through purchase a number of properties for salvage or investment purposes or for industrial development. Among them were idled paper mills and other abandoned factories or plants in Northern New York and elsewhere in the country.
