Marilyn Kamp, a long time resident of Upstate New York, and a more recent transplant to South Florida, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. Marilyn is joining her late husband, Bernie Kamp, daughter, Phylissa Britan, her sister Rosie Rosoff; her brother Joey Spector; and her parents, Fanny and Philip Spector, in heaven.
Bernie and Marilyn were the founders of their family business, Kamp Airport, in the 1970s. They were both licensed pilots. Marilyn had the distinction of being one of the only women at the time to own an airport. Their business was quite remarkable and drew the attention of Dunn and Bradstreet who interviewed them on how they created a full-service airport including maintenance and complete support systems from the ground up.
Marilyn\'s legacy is that of a true pioneer. One of the first female pilots of her time, she was an active member of the Ninety-Nines, an all female pilots\' non-profit founded in 1929. She traveled to the Soviet Union in the late 1980s with an all female pilots association and met with female cosmonauts. She extended her visit to find her family\'s roots and final resting places. Marilyn spearheaded the Sky Watch program, an organization of female aviators who searched for and rescued lost and injured people; and was one of the earliest protectors of the environment in reporting pollution violators from the cockpit of her plane. An active member and past president of Hadassah, Marilyn committed her life to the advancement of women, traveling all over the world to promote women\'s scholarship and education.
Marilyn\'s love and generosity extended beyond family and friends. She opened her door to everyone in need of a meal or companionship. Marilyn loved golf, tennis, museums, plays, and socializing. She had a smile that could light up a room, and a personality to match. She was the mother of four daughters, and then the bubbe of four granddaughters. She was a strong role model and guided their lives by example. She had that special ability to put her personal stamp and flair on everything she did.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Susan Kamp, Marsha Kamp (Stephen) Rothenberg and Bonnie Kamp, her sister Bess Greenberg, and her granddaughters, Rachel Golden, Delilah Rothenberg, Tiffany Rothenberg and Tanner Britan. Marilyn will be truly missed as our beloved matriarch.
Funeral services will be at 2PM on Friday, November 3 at Sisskind Funeral Chapel, 3175 E. Genesee Street. There will not be a calling hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at Marsha and Steve\'s home Saturday evening from 7:30 to 9; Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9, Monday through Thursday from 7-9PM
