Allen Kier, 89, of Syracuse passed away Thursday morning. He was a life-long resident of Syracuse who graduated from Nottingham High School and attended Syracuse University. Allen retired from Gallinger Real Estate in 2008 where he worked following his many years in the newspaper business. He enjoyed being a salesperson and worked his way up from selling newspapers to being the advertising sales manager at The Post-Standard. He was successful because he listened to his customers and only sold them what they needed. Allen was active with the Radio Amateurs of Greater Syracuse (RAGS) for several decades and held an advanced Ham radio license. Many an evening or weekend was enjoyed speaking with someone over the air across the globe or just across town. Allen volunteered for the Ham Radio lab at the MOST in Syracuse as well as providing communications for many other community events. When Allen was not talking on ham radios, he enjoyed reading books, learning the computer and working around the house. He was an original "do it yourself-er". Allen was devoted to his Temple and served at Temple Beth El in many positions including President. Anyone who knew Allen would say "What a nice guy", and it seemed that everybody knew Allen.
Allen was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, "Bobbi" in 2004; sister, DeeLoures Kier Rosenberg; his nephew, Jeff Rosenberg and by Angel, the devoted family dog in 2012.
He is survived by two sons, Howard (Sheryl) Kier of Schaumburg, IL, and Rick (Karen) Kier of Jamesville, NY; 5 grandchildren: Meghan, Mathew, Michah Kier of Schaumburg, IL and Benjamin Kier of Elizabethtown, PA, Nicholas Kier of Baltimore, MD as well as two step-grandsons: Jeffery Hall of Manlius, NY and Joseph Hall of New York City, NY.
