Benjamin Botnick, 82, of 209 Hurlburt Road died Monday at his home. A native of Elmira, Mr. Botnick lived in Syracuse 50 years. He retired in January as the president of Syracuse Card Co., which he and his wife, Evelyn, founded in 1948. Mr. Botnick previously taught business subjects and coached football at Elmira High School. Mr. Botnick was a 1935 graduate of Virginia Poly Tech, where he was on its football team and was named as a guard to the All-Southern Football Team. He also received his Masters of Business Administration degree from Syracuse University. Mr. Botnick was a member of Temple Adath Yeshurun, the SU Orange Pack and the Ernie Davis Club. He co-chaired the 1992 Inter-Religious Leadership Award Dinner. A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Botnick was a member of Onondaga Post 131, Jewish War Veterans.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn; three daughters, Susan Better of Jamesville, Karen Alimi of DeWitt and Anita Persoff of Reseda, Calif.; a brother, Irving of Paramount, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Birnbaum Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. After the services, friends may call at their convenience at the family home.
